DJ Lithium. The one, the only, the original.
The mysterious and ninja like man behind the scenes DJ Lithium almost single handed, continues to save the planet from digital demons. He loves vinyl records more than Jesus, Mohammed and Buddah all together and will fight you over it (yes literally).
He is the founder and force behind Black Tiger Recordings, an accomplished Studio Engineer and he is an expert in mastering for vinyl.
Did you know: Lithium (Kelly Lee Myers, or “Kat” in the VFX business) has won an Emmy Award Certification and a Peabody award for his VFX work on Battlestar Galactica. He pioneered the worlds first and longest running Trance radio station on the internet (yes it’s still going – you got the link on the right side of this page) and still fully independent. Much of the technology that makes internet radio possible today was beta tested originally over a decade ago by DJ Lithium.
He was also voted the top trance DJ in Canada (which is interesting because he’s American) for 2005 by KlubLife Magazine – the last year they did the Top DJ poll survey of its readers.
DJ Lithium is widely recognized and considered by many to be one of the most successful “bedroom djs” alive, yet is anything but. He is known around the world through the long time operation of his streaming mp3 radio station which has been listed on Shoutcast.com and in the iTunes “Electronica” directory practically from day one of both services being launched.
With over 40 mixed sets released over 12 years and broadcast via “DJLithium.com Radio” (now BlackTigerRecordings.com Radio) as well as several top internet broadcasters such as DI.FM and Afterhoursdjs.org, DJ Lithium has successfully established himself as a respectable force in the underground dance music community both as a DJ and label owner. As the co-founder and Executive Producer of Black Tiger Recordings | Nice Kitty Music Entertainment Ltd. he has worked with long time DJ and events production partner Earl Von Bye to build Canada’s largest and most active Trance music record label group. Working with artists, DJs and producers from around the world, DJ Lithium has pushed forward the careers of DJ Virgen (San Diego, California), Incolumis (Finland), Sinful Nature (Washington D.C.), San Mehat (San Francisco, California/Ottawa, Canada), Jon Cates (Portland, Oregon) plus D-Wave and trance[]control (both from Sweden) and Dejan Subotin (Serbia).
While rarely playing in public (by choice) , DJ Lithium has appeared at clubs and events from Montreal to San Diego, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Tijuana and Mexico City as the headlining DJ playing for crowds from 300 to 3000. DJ Lithium’s mixing technique, while again rarely seen, is beyond what many party go-ers and club patrons would consider as being “energetic” and for those close enough to witness – mind shattering in its approach. With a firm technical style and somewhat radical approach to playing records, making use of a method never seen before for many, there is no doubt that when DJ Lithium puts on a performance it’s much more than “just another DJ” standing behind a set of decks and dropping records.
As a strong and vocal supporter of Vinyl DJs and vinyl phonograph record only mixing techniques and technology, DJ Lithium has gone and continues to go head to head against “major djs” on the subject and wins every time with his points on why digital djing is destroying dance music world wide and what can be done to fix it this major issue facing the dance music community.
In addition to all of this DJ Lithium (Kat) runs several other websites including www.liberty3d.com and www.battlestarvfx.com – both sites dedicated to 3D visual FX.
